Il lavoro vien viaggiando

Se è vero che non di soli agriturismi vive chi viaggia, è altrettanto vero che non di solo inglese vive chi lavora. E neanche di solo tedesco o di sola Europa + USA.

Il lavoro è una delle migliori scuse per viaggiare, quindi perché accontentarsi dei posti a noi più vicini, non solo nella geografia ma anche nell’immaginario? Tra le ragioni al viaggio, il lavoro è di certo se non la più seria quanto meno la più impegnativa, quindi tanto vale spingersi oltre. Alcune ragioni per scegliere di lavorare fuori dall’Europa e/o in paesi non anglofoni? Eccone tre:

Le aziende vogliono novità…
Ogni anno entrano in circolo migliaia di CV di persone al netto di esperienze leonardo/erasmus, viaggi con la scuola di due settimane in Scozia/Irlanda/Malta/Francia/Germania.  Tutte cose che alla aziende risultano utili al 30% e per i candidati sono elemento di competitività solo al 30%. Il restante 40% serve ai bei ricordi di chi le ha vissute (dati forniti dal mio generatore automatico di percentuali).
Per le aziende, l’Europa è una grande occasione. Ma non certo l’unica.
E se sul tuo CV fosse scritto ‘un anno in Thailandia’?
Oppure ‘Sei mesi in Cina per studiare il mandarino e lavorare come ragazza/o alla pari’?

Chi se ne frega di cosa vogliono le aziende?
Ok, il discorso liberal-chic della concorrenza nelle aziende, dell’emergere tra la massa, del CV da arricchire con qualcosa di speciale l’ho liquidato. Veniamo a cose più serie, perché diciamolo… nel bilancio di una vita, chi se ne frega della bella impressione che facciamo al boss di turno o al segretario che ci tiene a colloquio?
Fare un’esperienza lavorativa in un paese lontano dal nostro immaginario teleguidato ha un impatto anche sulla nostra vita sociale e comunicativa.
Niente dopo sarà più lo stesso. Sulla Cina insegna più un ideogramma che un’intera carriera in azienda!
Non ti prendono nella sede giapponese di yahoo? Poco male, se ti accettano in un sushi bar hai vinto!
Il premio consiste nell’umanità variegata che vedi, negli odori che senti, nella fatica che impari, nella diversa attitudine al lavoro che potrà liberarti da molti tuoi retaggi nazionali. 
E se ti va poi di tornare, saranno poche le cose che ti faranno ancora paura, persino in Italia.

E a mio avviso non avrai neanche più voglia di regalare il tuo valore aggiunto ad un’azienda. Lo userai per te.

Impari prima qual è il tuo personale valore aggiunto
Nel leggere un annuncio di lavoro a Budapest, mi ha incuriosita una specifica richiesta per la ricerca del candidato/a ideale: Italian Ability to be pro-active and to think “outside the box’, ossia volavano la tipica attitudine italiana a risolvere i problemi in modo creativo, anche uscendo fuori dai percorsi scontati o ufficiali. (se di interesse, qui l’offerta)

Alcune cose si apprendono anche attraverso la propria cultura e le contaminazioni cui questa è sottoposta. E spesso non sappiamo riconoscere le nostre potenzialità acquisite sinché non le vediamo da lontano.
Più lontano andiamo, meglio le vediamo, va da sé.

Ipotesi e dritte sulle mete:
Cina – Shangai dista solo 10 ore di aereo da Milano. L’aereo parte la sera e arriva al mattino, idem al rientro. I voli non sono poi tanto costosi (AR anche a 500 euro – stesso prezzo medio annuo per un AR per la Finlandia e la Danimarca)
Per avere un’infarinatura di cinese prima di partire, consiglio il metodo Chineasy.
Sul sito www.saporedicina.com, molti spunti su tutto ciò che concerne il vivere e lavorare in Cina.

Ovviamente anche il Giappone resta un ever green della fascinazione orientale. Il sito  www.gaijinpot.com funziona come un motore di ricerca con l’inserimento di parole chiave per destinazione, scopo (lavoro, studio, viaggio breve o lungo) e tipologia di lavoro.
Dà anche nozioni per l’apprendimento della lingua, ma a mio avviso su questo aspetto esiste di meglio, come skitter (anche per il Cinese).

Per andare diversamente a oriente, perché non provare con la Thailandia? Conosco diverse persone che hanno vissuto, studiato o lavorato lì (per posta privata potrei provare a mettervi in contatto con loro) e sono tutti molto felici dell’esperienza vissuta, sul piano nozionale e umano.

PS: se non fosse chiaro, non ritengo che la fuga di cervelli sia un dramma nazionale. Forse credo nell’esatto contrario.

The work comes travelling

If it’s true that not by restaurants alone does a traveller live, it must be said that not by English  alone does a worker live. Nor German and Europe + USA.

The work is one of the best excuses to travel, so why shall we settle for the closer places, not only in geography but also in the imagination? Among the reasons to travel, work is certainly not the most serious, but at least the most challenging, so let’s try to go a bit out off tracks! Do you need some reasons for choosing to work out of Europe  and USA (and / or in non-Anglophone countries)? Here are three:

Companies need something new…
Every year, there are thousands of resumes coming into the market, that report shortly experiences such as leonardo / Erasmus, school trips of a couple of weeks in Scotland / Ireland / Malta / France / Germany. All things that are 30% useful to the companies, 30% for applicants as an element of competitiveness. The remaining 40% is just a matter of sweet memories for those who lived  them(data supplied by my automatic generator of percentages).
For companies, Europe is a great opportunity. But certainly not the only one.
And what if you could write in your CV: ‘a year in Thailand’?
Or ‘Six months in China to study Mandarin and work as an Au pair?

Who cares about companies?!

Well, ok, now that I ‘ve spoled the liberal-chic  argument of competition and of the need to make the difference in your CV and bla, bla, bla we come to more serious things; because to tell the truth… in the balance of a life, who cares about the good impression that we give to the boss or to the guy of the interview?
To gain work experience in a country far away from our imagination has an impact on our social and communicative life.
Nothing will ever be the same anymore, after .
You didn’t win a position in Yahoo Japan? Not bad, if you accept a position in a sushi bar, you win!
The prize consists of the varied humanity that you see, the tastes and perfumes you feel, in the effort that you learn, in the different attitude to work that will set you free you from some of your national heritage .

And in my opinion, you won’t even  desire anymore to give your added value to any company. You’d use  it for yourself!

In reading a job ad in Budapest, I was curious about a specific request they made for the ideal candidate: Italian Ability to be pro-active and to think “outside the box ‘.
We learn things through our own culture and its contamination. And often we do not recognize our acquired potential, as long as we don’t look at it from far away.
The farther we go, the better we see, of course.

Clues and tips on destinations:
China – Shanghai is a 10 -hour flight from Milan. The plane leaves in the evening and arrives in the morning, and flights are not so expensive ( RT can be but 500 EUR – the same annual average price for a RT to Finland and Denmark )
To have a smattering of Chinese before leaving, I recommend the Chineasy method.
On the web site www.saporedicina.com , many ideas on everything related to living and working in China.

Of course, Japan remains an evergreen fascination for Western Europe. The site www.gaijinpot.com works as a search engine by entering keywords depending on destinations, purpose (work, study, short or long travel) and type of work .
It also gives ideas for learning the language but in my opinion you can find something better on this matter, such as skitter ( aso for Chinese ).

Why not Thailand? I met several people who have lived, studied or worked there and they are all very happy with the experience. Here, some ideas for foreigners.

PS: No need to explain that, in my opinion, brain drain is not a national tragedy . Maybe I believe the exact contrary.
