Bank Furt, Mainhattan and Big “Äppel” are just a few nicknames for this city, which ranges at the fifth place in Germany in terms of inhabitants and at the 1st place in Europe for average earnings. It is also at the 5th place for the quality of life worldwide. These are just a few aspects of a city whose variety makes it a perfect combination of culture and entertainment suitable for any kind of visitor.
1 – Romantic:
The amazing light of sunset reflected on the skyscrapers will remind you of the “breakfast at Tiffany’s” atmosphere. The
200 metres high Main-Tower is something you can’t miss, just like the walk along the Main River or through the many green gardens and parks of the city. One of them, the Löhrberg park, will impress you with its huge orchards.

2 – “Sex and the city”:
If you just want to have fun, relax and forget about the rest, you can easily spend fashionable happy hours and visit the luxury shopping centre. Don’t miss visiting the Zeil, the main fashion street in Frankfurt. Then, proceed on Goethestraße and have a look at the coloured, lively and multicultural areas of small boutiques and vintage shops of Bornheim, Bockenheim or Sachsenhausen,.
Late at night, enjoy the music life of Frankfurt listening to some good jazz at the Jezzkeller Frankfurt, Jazzhuas and l’Ensemble Modern.

3 – The cultured:
For a cultural trip, we suggest a visit to the city hall (the Römer) with its impressive gothic facade, which has long been the symbol of the town together with the Saint Paul’s Church in the historical centre. Another place to see for the culture lovers is the home of Goethe, which includes a museum. For those interested in the porcelain production (who’s not?), the porcelain museum in the western part of the town is a must-see. In Frankfurt there’s plenty of Museums to choose from and one of the most remarkable is the Städel Museum, the museum of modern art. If you plan to spend some time here in August, you’ll enjoy the Museumsuferfest taking place at the end of the month, with galleries open at night, concerts and open air markets.

4 – The business wo(man):
Frankfurt is a well known trade fair city, with special municipal regulations applied to the closing times of public premises on the occasion of the yearly fairs. It is a perfect destination for entrepreneurs wishing to make their brand known. The main exhibitions are the Book Fair and the International Automobile Exhibition held biennially in Frankfurt.

In the fair area there are many good restaurants, both formal and casual, good for all budgets.
5 – The job seeker:
Due to the huge amount of multinational firms and main European banks, many young people choose this city to have an enriching job experience, either short or long term. A good knowledge of the English language is always required, whereas German and possibly a third European language (or, possibly, Asian) are a plus.

Low budget, yet cozy and in a good position. The area is good for young people and it will be easy to find a good local or ethnic restaurant.
6 – The student
Frankfurt is the right place for an international study experience as well as to enjoy the “student life”.
The Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität is a 16 faculties university, and the University of Frankfurt is historically known for social researches and philosophy. In the last years, there has been an increasing interest in law studies that has led to the creation of the Law and Finance Institute (ILF) and the Centre of Financial Studies (CFS).

7 – Family
The huge parks, several green areas and very interesting attractions like the museum of natural history and the 150 year-old zoo are perfectly suitable for families and kids of all ages.

Well ht price average is like the Mittel Europe and German one, so for a budget traveller from South Italy (like me) it’s not so cheap. But there’s plenty of hostels of good quality and much choice.

I have been to Frankfurt back in 2007, with my ex who was working in banking and finance. We spent the entire time arguing. It was raining and cold and I had just arrived after a wedding in Turkey and I must admit I hated every minute of it! I suppose I should go back and give it a second chance!

I live in Germany at the moment, but I haven’t taken so much time to explore Frankfurt. I’ve seen some of the main spots around the city, but I would love to get off the beaten path and explore more.
