2 ways Puglia will make you feel the happiest woman in the world

Yes, I’m not exaggerating (I never do! 🙂 ). I’m really going to tell you about how to get moments of pure happiness and freedom in Puglia, south Italy. It’s not the first time I talk about this region, that is actually my own one (and that makes me quite an expert, don’t you think so?). But now I’ll show you 2 easy ways to find, during the best trip of your life:

  • good hearted people who’ll stay your friends or at least good acquaintance FOREVER, because I know them and I swear you’ll never let them go
  • open air activities but…
  • not too tiring (life is too short to get tired for sports)
  • Good food and good wine (life is too short to drink bad wine)
  • You’ll be physically satisfied and mentally full of so much local knowledge and the many life lessons that will be a part of your personal heritage for the rest of your life!

These are 2 experiences I had the honor to join recently. They are my friends, there’s no business in what I’m writing, just heart.

More than local tours and local experiences

tornango bike tour salento This picture was taken during my “Tourango” experience. The number of things I have learned during that cycling morning in Gallipoli is incredible: I’m a local, I’m supposed to be quite aware of my land’s treasures. Well, as a matter of fact, I’m not. There’s always a way to be a stranger in your homeland, and this is great! By the way, renting a bike might not be enough to fully enjoy the local nature, history, experience. So, I really suggest you to put together your favorite activity (biking is one for me) with a local guide, able to tell you everything about the place where you’ll make it. But don’t look for a “cold” guide. Look for a person that is so eager to make you learn about local nature and history and history linked to nature, to become your close friend. Tourango is the best way to get it all (your favorite activity, new local friends, true expertise, new knowledge). This is a company based in Lecce but operating all around Puglia, able to make you live a true local experience looking for the best people that can make you feel strong emotions and empathy. You’ll see and learn a lot about everything you do (craft activities, wine tasting, biking, trekking, etc.) and the place you do it, keeping an good memory of the people that will lead you. They are very passionate local experts, who love their territory and will teach you how to protect this land and yours, once you’re home. They will be your Apulian friends.

Join a great cooking class with great people

There are 3 things that make us happier than food: very good food very good food you make by yourself very good food you make by yourself while drinking very good wine or beer. So, why don’t you join a great (and believe me, crazily funny) cooking class with locals?  Alessandra and Patrizia are mother and daughters who look like sisters and their relationship (that will certainly amuse you) is very sisterly too. Patrizia teaches you how to prepare great local food whereas Ale translates her tips into English as well as interesting local facts, offering you beer and local wine while cooking (yeah, that’s the Italian way!). Alessandra is a hard traveller. She thinks global and she acts local. If there was a way to save the world, this would be her way. At the end, their cooking class becomes a great social dinner, where you’ll talk, eat local fresh food, drink wine (Alessandra knows quite a lot about the subject and she’s always eager to learn more and share all her knowledge about it). So, what are you waiting for? Here are 3 things to do:

1 – book you flight to Puglia (Bari or Brindisi Airport)

2 – book your local experiences

3 – enjoy happiness

OK, this is officially on my bucket list. It’s exactly the way I love to travel. Cooking classes and living like a local. I’m in.

Lecce, my city, in Puglia, is defined as “The Florence of the South”, for its beauty and charm 🙂
By the way… Puglia has one of the best coasts in Europe (and this makes the biggest difference with Tuscany 🙂 )

I’ve never heard of them, but cooking class sounds like something I’d do. In fact, the food looks super delicious too.

I’ve not been to Puglia before but am always looking at property for sale there and am so glad to be able to read your post now so that I can get a better understanding of the place. It seems really gorgeous and I had to smile when you said you didn’t know everything about your hometown as I am the same in my hometown in Ireland. Ha Ha!

I would love to ride a bicycle and do camping in Puglia. If there is a sea view yes it calls me to feel the experience. Local foods and drinks always must be tried too. Thank you for the trip.

That’s so cool that they gave a cooking class out there. I know I would love to take one in Italy. That would be awesome. And trave ling by bike would be an adventure in and of itself. Very nice.

It’s 600 kms distance, an afternoon by train :-), 30 min with a flight.
Lecce, my city, is called The Florence of the South 🙂 but Puglia has a better sea! Where are you staying in Tuscany? I’ve lived there for a while and have a lot of friends. It would be great to meet!!
